The debate frequently centres on the ministry of Jesus, Galatians 3:28, 1 Corinthians 11:5, 1 Corinthians 14:34–35, 1 Timothy 2:11–15, and the examples of women such as Phoebe and Junia in Romans 16. While some interpreters argue that the New Testament establishes unrestricted equality in ecclesial ministry, others maintain that Scripture affirms the full spiritual equality and significant ministry of women while reserving the authoritative teaching and governing office of elder or pastor for qualified men.
